Lectures, garden tours, native plant sales, tasty snacks, live music and even a nature scavenger hunt are part of “Hope for a Green Future: Restoring Your Local Ecology One Garden at a Time,” a two-day event next weekend celebrating California’s diverse and beautiful landscape.

….
“We hope to attract not only gardeners, birders and foodies, but families as well — especially ones who like the outdoors, enjoy hiking, gardening, bird-watching and eating homegrown food, fresh from the garden,” says Alrie Middlebrook, founder of the nonprofit San Jose-based California Native Garden Foundation, which is organizing the event. The sustainable garden tour, which also is scheduled for both days, will visit gardens with living roofs, edibles, recycled materials and water features, among other idea-inspiring components.

“We’re trying to kick off spring a little early this year as there has been so much unpleasant news lately,” says Middlebrook.
